Messenger, MSN Messenger dan Windows Live Messenger.

People often get categorized by social group--jock, geek, soccer mom. The same is true for our online identities: If you have an account on Facebook or LinkedIn, you might also belong to several groups on each site.

Now researchers at the Vienna Institute of Technology, Institut Eurecom and UC Santa Barbara have found a way that malicious websites could find out what groups you belong to, and use that information to identify you. Such websites could use the trick for identity theft or to craft personalized scams.
The researchers found that a malicious site could "capture" a person's social networking groups from his browser with a trick known as history stealing. By cross-referencing these groups, they could reveal someone's social-network profile--and therefore their real-life identity--42 percent of the time. This means that an otherwise anonymous Web user could be identified correctly by a malicious site simply because the user visited that site.
"The browser can ask if these guys are a member of the iPhone group or the PC security group or the XYZ group, and by calculating intersections, we can identify them in many cases," says Gilbert Wondracek, a postdoctoral candidate in computer science at the Vienna Institute of Technology, who led the work.
Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn, and others major social networks let anyone see who belongs to certain groups. Other attributes can group people together as well. For example, Facebook not only has groups but also lets users express whether they "like" certain links or content.
Most people join these groups without thinking of how it might affect their privacy, says Elena Zheleva, a PhD candidate at the University of Maryland who has researched privacy issues and social networks. "People don't think about it, but groups are one way that information is transferred about a person," she says.
This would hardly matter if not for a well-known attack that lets a website check whether certain links are in a visitor's browser history. This so-called history stealing involves checking to see if a user has visited a particular link. Using history stealing, an attacker can use a snippet of code on a website to ask a visitor's browser if they have visited certain links. The technique can check thousands of links per second. Wondracek and colleagues used history stealing to find which groups people belonged on the social network Xing by checking to see if their history contained a link to the group's page.
"It's a perfect use of the history hack," says Jeremiah Grossman, chief technology officer for Web security firm WhiteHat Security.

How To Upload A High Def Video To YouTube

This is a short article to answer some of the questions that one may have when attempting to upload a high definition video in YouTube. Hope that it helps!

1. Sign up for an account.

2. At the top right hand corner, beside the search bar, there is an upload button. You can choose to upload videos from computer or record straight from webcam.

3. Let's go to upload from computer first. For this there are two types of videos, high def or normal quality. Normal quality is self explanatory.

4. For high def, I recommend using a 1280X720 (16:9 HD) or a 640X480 (4:3 SD). Of course, the higher the resolution, the sharper the picture will be, with the downside of long load times for high def movies.

5. As for frame rates, unless you are a pro, I do not recommend that you go and adjust it.

6. For codec, MPEG 4 will be good, since it is pretty main stream. If not, use H.264 codec

7. As for audio, the usual mp 3 format will work well. Just make sure that when you upload the video and audio, it will not be out of sync. Out of sync turns off the viewer, regardless of how great the content is.

8. Please do not add letterbox before it is uploaded when creating a 4:3 video from a 16:9 video. The YouTube player will add boxes to the side if you do add the letterboxes so your video will end up very small.

9. IMPT!!! Before you upload anything to YouTube, you will need to run some testing first, because you cannot re-upload the video again, under the same name.

Jepang Kembangkan Internet Berkecepatan 32 milyar Kbps

Sebuah teknologi optik baru sedang diujicoba di Jepang. Dahsyatnya, teknologi itu mampu mencapai kecepatan 30 Terabit per detik (Tbps) atau lebih dari 32 Miliar Kbps.

Uji coba itu telah dilakukan oleh KDDI R&D Labs bersama National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) di Jepang. Teknologi yang diujicoba memanfaatkan transmisi bernama OFDM alias orthogonal frequency division multiplex.

Sekadar pembanding, kecepatan koneksi internet saat ini masih jauh –sangat jauh– dari yang dicapai dalam ujicoba tersebut. Kecepatan 500 kilobit per detik (Kbps), misalnya, sudah termasuk lumayan untuk penggunaan normal sehari-hari. Sedangkan rata-rata kecepatan internet di dunia, berdasarkan data akhir 2008, adalah 1.5 Mbps atau 1500 Kbps.

Nah, 30 Terabit per detik itu kurang lebih setara dengan 32 miliar kilobit per detik. Dengan kecepatan seperti ini, per detiknya data yang sanggup dikirimkan mencapai 3,9 juta MB, atau hampir 1.000 keping DVD film per detiknya.

ujicoba itu dilakukan pada jarak 240 kilometer, artinya bukan sekadar ujicoba jarak dekat. Rencananya KDDI akan mengkomersialkan teknologi ini pada 2012.
